Crown Green Bowls has been played on the green on the present site of the Culcheth Sports Club ever since the formation of our forerunner the Daten Sports and Social Club in the 1950’s. At the beginning of the 2001 Season we formally recognised the name change in our registrations for the local Bowls Leagues, and we are now known as Culcheth Sports Club instead of Daten.
We have a well-manicured green, which is floodlit to prolong playing times at the beginning and end of the season, a handy bar and sheltering provisions.
The length of the Bowls Season is to some extent dependent on the weather, but the green is normally opened at the beginning of April and closes in the late autumn.
We run several teams, which play in the local Warrington and Newton Leagues. These League matches and our own Members competitions occupy the green on several afternoons and evenings each week. The League match times are as follows:
- Warrington A (Men’s)
- Warrington B (Men’s)
- Pensioners A (Men)
- Pensioners B (Men)
- Warrington A (Ladies)
- Warrington B (Ladies)
- Ladies A
- Newton A (Men’s)
- Newton B (Men’s)
Alternate Friday Evenings:
- Newton C (Men’s)
There are also various Members’ competitions, including Gents and Ladies Singles and Mixed Pairs. Members use their own Bowls, mostly Crown Green bowls, but we can usually accommodate anybody who doesn’t possess their own, on a short-term basis.~
MEMBERSHIP & CASUAL PLAYING FEES
The Season Tickets for Section Members are currently £20.00 for all Member classes.
Casual play can be arranged for Culcheth Sports Club Members and their guests who do not have a Section Season Ticket and the fee for this is £2.50 per hour which is payable to the Club Steward before commencing play. Availability of the green for this purpose can be checked by contacting the Section Officials or speaking with the Steward at the Club.
We are always pleased to see new faces, so if you would like to join us or require any further information please contact any of the Section Officials below. Only Culcheth Sports Club members can join the Bowls Section, but if you are interested in bowls we can make membership arrangements for you.
